If you have ever stood next to a HEMI-powered Challenger or Charger at idle, you know the feeling. That deep, rumbling V8 is more than a sound. It is a big part of why so many of us fell in love with Mopar in the first place. At Merrick Motorsports, we make and install parts for these cars every day, and our customers are some of the most passionate car people anywhere. That is why we are asking you to help us save the HEMI.
How It Started
In January 2024, our founder, Earl Merrick, started a petition on Change.org asking Stellantis to keep the HEMI alive. It began as one enthusiast speaking up for a whole community of drivers who were not ready to say goodbye to the V8 Challenger and Charger.
As of October 2026, more than 1,700 fellow enthusiasts have signed. That is 1,700 people who took a minute out of their day to say the HEMI still matters to them. And it looks like Stellantis may be hearing us. This is exactly the moment to keep the momentum going.
What the Petition Asks
The petition is addressed to Stellantis, Dodge's parent company. It urges them to keep making HEMI engines and to continue production of the Dodge Challenger and Charger alongside their new electric models. This is not about being against electric cars. It is about choice. Dodge can serve drivers who are excited about electric options and, at the same time, keep building the traditional V8 muscle cars that so many of us still want to buy.
Why the HEMI Matters
The HEMI Challenger and Charger carry decades of Mopar history. For a lot of owners, these cars are tied to family memories, weekend car shows, track days and long drives with the windows down. They are cars people keep, modify and pass down.
There is also real demand behind the passion. The petition points out that, according to Statista, more than 61,000 Dodge Chargers were sold in the United States in 2020 alone. That is a lot of drivers choosing this car, and it shows a market that is still very much alive.
For the aftermarket community, from parts makers to installers to the folks at your local cars and coffee, the HEMI platform supports a huge ecosystem of builders and fans. Keeping these cars in production keeps that community growing.
